Having adequate lighting in your home can make your domain more comfortable and functional. If you are looking for some unique ways to add light to your living area, you might want to consider investing in some string lights.

Here are two creative lighting options you can incorporate into your home that make use of affordable string lights.

1. Create a hula hoop chandelier.

Chandeliers can be costly, but you can easily add the elegance and style of a chandelier by relying on a hula hoop and some string lights. Purchase a hula hoop from your local department store, and invest in some clear string lights.

Take some lace or ribbon in a color that matches your interior design scheme and wrap it around the hula hoop. Attach the material in place with a hot glue gun. Next, wrap the string lights around the hula hoop, allowing the lights to swag down at different lengths.

If you want to disguise the electrical plug on your newly-created chandelier, contact an electrician to install a ceiling outlet box that the chandelier can be plugged in to access an electrical current.

2. Create a lighted art frame using silk flowers.

If you want to combine some interior home lighting with a piece of art, then creating a lighted silk flower installation could be the answer.

Start by purchasing a frame large enough to fill the wall space where you want your lighted art installation to hang, and remove the glass portion of the frame. Invest in some flexible garden fencing from your local hardware store, and measure out a piece of fencing that will cover the entire open area inside your frame.

Attach the fencing using a staple gun or some nails, and wind your string lights through the fencing in a pattern that is pleasing to the eye. Attach the lights to the fencing using electrical tape, and begin attaching silk flowers of varying colors and varieties to the fencing using a hot glue gun.

Once the string lights and fencing have been concealed by the silk flowers, hang your artwork and enjoy the ambient lighting it can provide. Be sure that you have an electrician recommend some string lights that are safe for indoor use to avoid creating a fire hazard.

Finding unique ways to incorporate string lights into your home allows you to create lighting fixtures that are both functional and artistic.
